Stress and Anxiety

Stress affects so many people these days.

This ‘flight and fight’  response was designed to protect your body in an emergency by preparing you to react quickly. This is ok if you are fleeing from a tiger but not the reaction wanted in everyday life.

When faced with certain situations or issues your hypothalamus, a tiny control tower in your brain, decides to send out the order: Send in the stress hormones!  The chemical cortisol and adrenal take over. Your heart races, your breath quickens, and your muscles ready for action. But when the stress response keeps firing, day after day, it could put your health at serious risk.”

Stress symptoms

Stress doesn’t just live in your mind it lives in your body, affecting the quality of your life. Maybe you have experienced:

  • Mood swings and irritability
  • Struggling to cope
  • Tight shoulders

Carrying stress in your shoulders indicates you are carrying responsibility that isn’t all yours.

  • Shallow or Restricted Breathing

Your body doesn’t feel safe enough to fully relax. Your nervous system is in fight or flight mode

A clenched jaw or tight face  You’ve been holding words in or putting on a brave face.

  • A tight or churning stomach
  • Digestive Issues, poor appetite, or eating unhealthily

Your body is stuck in worry or trying to “digest” too much at once.

  • Muscular / skeletal pains
  • Stress throughout the whole nervous system
  •  Sleep problems, constant waking and difficulty sleeping

Your mind is busy trying to sort out issues over and over.

  • Exhaustion, tiredness, fatigue
  • Your body is using a lot of energy unproductively
  • Tension headaches and migraines
  • Too many things held in the headspace

Working with the body’s energy systems, we can find the root cause and these symptoms can dissipate and calm and vitality can be restored.

Does being a PEOPLE PLEASER benefit YOU?

Are you the type of person who bends over backwards to help other, is always at other people’s beck and call and is the one everyone else seems to expect to take on tasks.

This can seem kind but who to? It can be a struggle and creates problems for you.

  • Do you say YES to others and have unhealthy boundaries, when you are tired or its not convenient?
  • Do you always try to fit in , be flexible, conform to circumstances instead of speaking up?
  • Do you have a high feeling of obligation to care for others?
  • Do you often ignore personal limitations and push on?

The consequences of these are:

  • You are often overwhelmed
  • Exhausted
  • Have poor sleep
  • Don’t care for your own need
  • End up in pain or illness

Discovering how you can change will:

  • Enable you to choose more freely
  • Take required rest, without guilt, and sleep better
  • Yourself the self care you need

Without change you will head to burnout and physical issues or illness. I see this all the time with clients.

In my field of work we call this personality B.O.S.S standing for Burn Out Safety System. Our unconscious mind tries to protect us and stop us from being our own worst enemy and will find ways to alert you to change.
